Anthony Johnson was born in Cape Town and lectured in photography at the Ruth Prowse School of Art in Cape Town while studying there in painting and sculpture.

After a career as a professional photographer spanning several decades, during which he undertook numerous international assignments he moved to New York for a 5 year period, after which he returned to Cape Town, where he now lives and works.

His assignments have included work on travel, food, still life, gardens, landscapes and interiors. His work has appeared in ads, on billboards, calendars, brochures, in store posters, food packaging, in countless publications and more than 20 books.
